Your Path to
a Full and Fun
Musical Experience

Some kids love the elegance of a grand piano and dream of someday playing a piece from centuries ago. Others want to learn fiddle tunes that feel right at home on the front porch. And some are inspired by the energy of modern performers, video games, or movie soundtracks—and they can’t wait to jump in.

No matter what makes your child’s eyes light up, they can explore it here.

At Baton Rouge Conservatory, your child is welcome to try it all—whether that’s piano, fiddle, ukulele, or anything in between. And the best part? It’s all taught with care, encouragement, and plenty of TLC, in our school on Goodwood Blvd.

You don’t have to choose just one path.
Your child gets to follow their curiosity—and build the skills and confidence to keep going.

Your child doesn’t have to be an advanced player to make music on piano, guitar, or violin.

Some folks need more encouragement, but everyone has something to say. We’ll share proven tools in the private lesson to have your child playing music the way they always dreamed…right from the start!

Even well-organized adults can have a hard time establishing a new habit, like daily  violin or piano practice

Children often find it impossible to practice daily. But there’s hope! Our verified system of making habits small and celebrating achievement comes from Stanford’s Behavior Design Lab.

Our instructors are professional musicians.

We have decades of experience directing string programs and teaching privately and at universities. We’ve performed for and with famous musicians such as Dionne Warwick, Christopher Parkening, and Yo Yo Ma.

Most importantly, we care. Our mission is to help your child chart their own path to musical mastery.

There are at least two recital opportunities each year. Admission is always free.

Your child may also have the opportunity to serve the community by performing at senior centers, hospitals, Farmers’ Markets, and veterans’ homes.

Cares very much about each particular student, helps them face their fears, and gives them support to not give up.

You might be wondering...

Nothing! Our teachers will meet them at their level...even if that's the ground floor.

Mastery takes time, but with regular practice you can expect to achieve a basic skill level in just a few months.

To ensure continual improvement (and maximize fun!), most students opt for long-term lessons.

By signing up for lessons at Baton Rouge Conservatory or our sister schools, you are committing to spending time with music daily. That includes:

  • your weekly lesson(s)
  • around 4-6 practice sessions (just a few minutes long in the beginning)
  • listening and enjoying music

We’ll work with you to find the best time. It will be the same time and day every week. Because growth happens as a result of work and rest, you’ll have regular weeks off during our breaks.

The first thing you would learn is how to stand or sit to sing or play. Then it’s go at your own pace!

You would learn playing or singing skills, music theory, and music reading.

Life happens! If you have to miss a lesson, simply take advantage of your bonus lesson at the end of the term.

Teachers who need to reschedule a lesson will do their best to let you know ahead of time. In emergencies, someone will let you know as soon as possible.

If no mutual time is available for a makeup lesson, your teacher will hire a substitute to come at your usual time. You will never be asked to forfeit a lesson because the teacher had to miss.

Your child’s teacher will help them know what to practice—and how to practice it.

At home, your encouragement makes a world of difference. Practicing soon after the lesson helps new skills stick. Then, practicing several more times during the week helps assignments feel easier—and way more fun.

In the beginning, practice might only last five or ten minutes. That’s okay! As your child builds stamina and skill, their focus and practice time will naturally grow, too.

Once a steady rhythm is established, many young musicians find that practicing the same length as their lesson, about five to seven days a week, helps them feel the most confident and prepared.

Older children who’ve caught the music bug may start asking to play even more—especially if they’re part of a school ensemble or dreaming about auditions. These dedicated students might begin working on technique (like scales or warmups), ensemble music, and their personal pieces.

But for now? Just start where you are. You don’t need long hours. Just a little daily TLC—some cozy time at the piano or with the ukulele—goes a long way.

And if it’s ever a struggle? That’s normal. You’re not alone, and we’re here to help.

Do you have a special situation? Tell us all about it! Together we’ll come up with a plan.
